The City of Rushmore recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new prefab duplex on First Street that will soon provide space for two separate childcare providers, helping address the growing childcare need in Nobles County. Construction is expected to be completed by June 30, with efforts already underway to recruit providers for the new spaces. An open house held May 19 brought together City staff and the Nobles County Childcare Licensor to discuss the opportunity, family childcare licensing process, and available grant funding.
The project gained renewed momentum thanks to the leadership and dedication of Community and Business Development Specialists Angie Kopplow and Jim Langborg. With DEED funding set to expire this summer, Kopplow and Langborg helped organize a committee and activate partners across the community to move the project forward.
“Everything kind of fell into place and we were fortunate enough to work with a lot of great people to get these things off the ground again and get it going,” said Councilman Ben DeVries. “I got to give thanks to everybody that came on board to help make this thing happen. It’s going to be a great asset for Nobles County.”
